LE BILLET DE 5 EUROS DE LA SÉRIE « EUROPE » DOIT ÊTRE ÉMIS À COMPTER DU 2 MAI 2013

L’Eurosystème, qui comprend la Banque centrale européenne (BCE) et les banques centrales nationales (BCN) des pays de la zone euro, a mené à leur terme les préparatifs en vue de l’introduction d’un nouveau billet de 5 euros, la première coupure de la série « Europe ». Ce nouveau billet sera mis en circulation dans toute la zone euro à compter du 2 mai 2013 à travers les canaux traditionnels, à savoir les distributeurs automatiques et les guichets des banques. Les billets de 5 euros de la première série coexisteront dans un premier temps avec les nouvelles coupures mais seront progressivement retirés de la circulation. Ils cesseront d’avoir cours légal à une date qui sera annoncée longtemps à l’avance. Ils conserveront toutefois leur valeur même après cette date, sans limite de temps, et pourront être échangés dans les BCN de la zone euro à tout moment.

Le billet de 5 euros de la série « Europe » a bénéficié des progrès technologiques réalisés dans les processus d’impression fiduciaire depuis l’introduction de la première série, il y a plus de dix ans, et comporte de nouveaux signes de sécurité améliorés. Le filigrane et l’hologramme montrent un portrait d’Europe, personnage de la mythologie grecque qui a donné son nom à la nouvelle série de billets. Un élément visible au premier coup d’œil est le nombre émeraude, qui change de couleur, passant du vert émeraude au bleu profond, et produit un effet de lumière qui se déplace de haut en bas et de bas en haut. Enfin, de petites lignes imprimées en relief sur les bordures, à gauche et à droite du billet, permettent, notamment aux aveugles et aux malvoyants, de le reconnaître facilement. L’ensemble de ces signes de sécurité figurent au recto du nouveau billet et peuvent être facilement vérifiés avec la méthode consistant à « toucher, regarder, incliner ». Il est prévu que la totalité des coupures de la série « Europe » en soient dotées.

Une vidéo intitulée « L’Euro : Notre Monnaie » a été produite afin de sensibiliser le grand public à l’arrivée de la nouvelle coupure. LETTER OF INTENT

We wish to use the electronic media and/or print media produced by the European Central Bank (ECB) to inform others. We declare that:

7. We understand that stocks of ECB materials for distribution are limited. We will inform the ECB of the number of copies distributed, the means of distribution as well as the target groups.
On behalf of the company/institution mentioned above, we declare that we will refrain from using any materials either in printed or electronic form provided by the ECB until our membership of the Partnership Programme has been confirmed.
We will be liable for any damages incurred by the ECB should we not act in accordance with this Letter of Intent. We also understand that the ECB reserves the right to terminate our membership at any time.
